The Irish based company’s first cargo of sail-transported wine was last July, and in March of this year a second consignment was shipped on the Etoile de France from St Malo. But Dublin is not just a port of call, there is a message!...and that’s not just in a bottle! It’s all about cutting down on carbon emissions through the use of ‘green’ sustainable wind energy to fight against our biggest challenge: Global Warming.
This ‘Return to Sail’ is not merely a romantic notion but is a business concept that addresses our over-dependency on fossil fuels but with a positive solution to our problems while crossing the seas and oceans for the Health of the Planet!
Fair Wind Wine are to expand their trading route strategy not just between France and Ireland but also to expand a network to Scandinavia and the U.S.A. Incidentally, last year also saw initial wine shipments to the UK and on the first trans-Atlantic route to Montreal, Canada onboard the three-master Belem, proving that the operations of the company can be worldwide.
The parent company, Compagnie de Transport Maritime a la Voile (CTMV) is to develop building a fleet of purpose-built sail driven merchant ships with the first vessel under construction and due to be delivered next year. CTMV therefore will contribute to a sustainable economy carrying wine but also other cargoes in a concept derived from merchant sailing ships that were used prior to the Industrial Revolution.
We now live in times of crisis in the financial markets with direct consequences on humanity and indeed the environment that poses so many questions that require urgent attention! There must be a positive response to say collectively we can build a new economy based on the wise knowledge of older times. We offer people the opportunity to get directly involved in the new concept. When people buy Fair Wind Wine, it is to say Stop!...and say we want something better for the future!"
Welcome onboard! sample our great wines at competitive prices. Their transportation will have produced 77% less carbon emissions compared with normal freight shipping.
